The crimes of George W. Bush, Richard B. Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell and others in his administration remain as open wounds and stark reminders gouged into the face of history, as the perpetrators themselves have quietly slipped from light and scrutiny of public consciousness.
What cannot be forgotten however is the blood of over 1 million Iraqi people which cries out for justice as the body count of their shameful adventure continues to rise, illuminating an increasingly vivid and coherent tale of tragedy and death, justified by arrogant declarations and hollow excuses of having committed these acts in the interests, and on behalf of, the American people. In other words, for you, and I.
In spite of all evidence to the contrary, almost a decade later in the midst of this trail of tears, blood and sorrow the members of the Bush-Cheney camp stand firm in their conviction that these wars of aggression were not only necessary, but also just.
While increasingly viewed by more objective parties as illegal and criminal, the fact remains that the public could hardly care, as the few reminders to this debacle are seen only in the the broken and battered heroes returning from their foreign endeavors... themselves mere shadows of the idealistic men and women who shipped out years ago, many of which have returned scarred both inside and out, to a country that refuses to understand, and fails to remember their sacrifice.
Yet without remorse the old guard of "skull and bones", good'ol boys stand united on their position that even if they lied, certainly Sadam was a "bad man" and if their lies made the world a "much better place", (as if draining the Treasury and enriching the likes of Haliburton, Boeing, Black Water and KBR constitute the values which make America such a strong country today) then "so be it".
One finds irony in this, much like a sick joke humorous only to those with the privilege of marching others off to fight wars of enrichment, at no expense to their lives or those of their loved ones. A luxury only known to politicians of the highest office, politicians who will be known to world history as WAR CRIMINALS.
In the face of their hollow and worn out self vindications, one cannot help but find gross analogies reminiscent of those asserted by Nazi leaders at the Nuremberg war trails. Unlike Nuremberg however, the perpetrators of what history will likely recall as one of the greatest acts of genocide known to the 21st Century these men and women who were "just following orders", and hunting the elusive shadows of terrorists and "evil doers" under rocks and sand in the Iraqi desert, remain free, and unpunished, and uncensored.
This document is one remaining source which reminds all Americans that the greatest criminals and terrorist which history will speak of have neither been captured nor punished as they continue to walk among us with impunity, oblivious of the horrendous crimes committed in our name as our elected officials to the highest and most powerful office in the world.
To ignore these crimes is not only an injustice to the very Americans who sacrificed and died defending their policies, but also to those who continue to live in a world reshaped and redefined in the light of fear, terror, war and injustice imposed in the eight years of the Bush Administration.
Will Americans remain mute and reticent as these scoundrels attempt to fade into the woodwork of history, much as the German public did in the face of the massive holocaust committed by their leaders in the 1940's? Or will we call them to answer for soiling the honor and dignity of a nation that represents not oppression and impunity, but freedom and justice?
Read, take note, and be enlightened, for certainly those who are ignorant of their history are doomed to repeat it.
